Cousins and nephew Seattle visits (12/24/2014 - 12/29/2014)

Cousins and nephew visits from San Jose and Korea (12/24/2014-12/28/2014):  They were Jinhee’s family (Jinhee Sun, her husband (Derek Deukyoon Kang), and son (Joon Kang)),  Mikyung Sun, and Jinho Sun.   Jinhee, Mikyung, and Jinho are siblings.  Their father (uncle) and older uncle have been the closest relatives whom my family knew in Korea.    Jinhee’s family now lives in San Jose, and two siblings are on vacation from Korea.    Around 1996 (my guess),  Mi-Kyung visited our family in Hawaii when Danny was 3 years old.     Back in 2010,  my family had a driving trip to San Jose,  and met Jinhee’s family for the first time.   This was our first time seeing our cousin, Jinho, from Korea.  

During my family driving trip to San Jose in 2010,   we drove through the Avenue of the Giants (32 miles !) which was along the Humboldt Red Woods State Park in Northern California.   Its grandeur nature and hiking trails had inspired me to start my outdoor activities (hiking, backpacking, Nordic skiing, kayaking,  mountain-biking, etc).   

My wife and I were grateful to accommodate them at our house since I have been on a holiday season vacation.   Here was a summary of their trip to Washington State.

         :

    a.      12/24 (Wed). Long drive from San Jose to Bremerton:  about 900 miles.   Left San Jose at 0200am and arrived at our house at 0620pm (16.3 hours of driving).    Brother James brought squids that he caught at Illahee dock. 

   b.      12/25 (Thur).  Christmas get together at Sam’s house.   30 minutes Ferry ride from Kingston to Edmonds.

        c.       12/26 (Fri).  Hurricane Ridge Visitor Center, Olympic National Park.    Observing squid fishing at Illahee Dock.

      d. 12/27 (Sat).   Visited Seattle Pike’s Market,  Gum Wall, & Space Needle, &  China Town).    1hr ferry ride from Bremerton to Seattle.   Visited Brother James House.

e. 12/28 (Sun).   Canoeing at Island Lake.    Naval Undersea Museum at Keyport.

       Visited Naval Undersea Museum at Keyport.

f. 12/29 (Mon).   Left Isaac’s house at 0710 to San Jose.   Arrived home 1140pm !!!

Here was a picture from Mikyung taken in front of the Multnomah Falls (Columbia River Gorge National Scenic Area) on the way to San Jose.
